The Biggest Roadblock to Our Dream Life
What if you could have the life you’ve always wanted?
Crazy, right?
I mean, we all have dreams and goals, and let’s face it, many of us are NOT living the life of our dreams. Not even close. So many obstacles stand in our way. It’s just not in the cards for us. Or the stars never seem to align.
And surely there is someone to blame.
Well, there is…
But you’re not going to like it. And believe me, you’re not alone.
The cold, hard truth is that we are the ones holding ourselves back. We are the biggest roadblock to our dream life. But while we don’t like hearing the news, that doesn’t make it any less accurate.
Why do we do it?
Well, for any number of reasons. Usually, an experience from a past event is keeping us from reaching our goals. It’s a coping mechanism that our subconscious mind has put in place to protect us. To maintain a state of self-preservation. How thoughtful of our subconscious mind to want to keep us from heartache or frustration or anxiety or whatever the issue is on any particular day.
Take, for instance, what happens when we set goals but then never reach them. We were excited when we wrote down the goal. Maybe we even dreamed a little, envisioning what was going to happen when the goal was reached. But then when we set out to accomplish the goal, something went wrong. Maybe the process wasn’t what we expected. Maybe it was harder than we thought. Maybe it didn’t feel natural. And so we quit.
That’s why so many people never stick with their New Years’ resolutions. We start the year with great ideas, but then the excitement fades. Maybe we’re trying to develop a new habit, but because we haven’t gotten the habit to stick yet, we end up letting it go. It’s too hard. It’s too much work. We don’t feel comfortable doing it. So, maybe it isn’t for us anymore.
When we get into the habit of setting a resolution or goal and then not sticking with it, how likely are we to want to set resolutions the following year? If you’re like me and a bunch of other people, you have probably decided to not even bother. What’s the point?
Developing a habit of never reaching the goals we set will surely keep us from setting goals in the future. And it can even keep us from feeling excited about making future plans.
So, how do we get out of our own way?
The most effective way that I know is through EFT/Tapping. EFT (which stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques and is also referred to as Tapping) is a healing process that shifts energy blockages in the body. I go into more detail over on another page (you can check it out HERE), but its main purpose is to eliminate emotional blocks, which are the issues that keep us stuck.
When we eliminate the emotional blocks, we start to see things (past events, the future, ourselves, other people) in a whole new light. What produced an emotional trigger within us in the past can now be observed without that emotional or physiological response. Once we tap away an issue, it should stay away for good.
Two wonderful things about EFT/Tapping are that it can be hugely effective at giving us relief and it can be done in the comfort of our own home. We can tap along to videos on YouTube or instructions from a book, or we can work directly with a certified EFT practitioner.
There are several huge benefits to working with an EFT practitioner though, the most critical one being that the individual can help us nail down certain things we can’t see on our own. It’s an outsider looking in, and that’s so important with EFT/Tapping because sometimes we just don’t realize what we’re truly saying or how we’re responding. It also helps immensely to have a voice of reason guiding us back to a more normal state or thought pattern.
